The teams which have qualified from the World Cup qualifiers

As already mentioned, the Netherlands and Sri Lanka are the 2 teams that have qualified from the qualifiers for the World Cup to be held in India later this year. Initially, 10 teams were divided into a couple of groups with 5 teams in each group.

The teams which finished among the top 3 spots from each group were able to qualify for the Super Sixes, which happens to be the subsequent round. According to their final rankings,

the 2 groups were as follows:

Group A – Netherlands, Zimbabwe, West Indies, United States of America, and Nepal

Group B – Scotland, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Ireland

The Netherlands, West Indies, and Zimbabwe were able to qualify for the Super Sixes from the first group. On the other hand, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and Oman succeeded in qualifying for the Super Sixes from the other group.

West Indies, the strong favorites, lost to Netherlands and Zimbabwe in the group stage. As a result, they were not able to qualify for the next round from the Super Sixes.

On the other hand, Scotland showed lots of promise at first and the qualifier was decided in the last game against Netherlands.

The situation was such that it was possible for Scotland to qualify only by defeating the Netherlands while the Netherlands could qualify if they were able to score 278 runs in 44 overs.

The Netherlands was able to qualify because of a fantastic performance from Bas de Leede and we really feel sorry for Scotland in the long run.

Sri Lanka succeeded in getting all the 10 points and therefore they were able to qualify in a hassle-free manner.
